Disney Dining Reservations

Is it true that you need to make dining reservations 6 months out or you won't get the reservations you want? Not entirely. Only in a few instances. There are the hard to come by reservations that are gone in the first few days that they are available such as Cinderella's Royal Table, where you get to eat in the castle in Magic Kingdom. Be Our Guest is also very popular due to it's recreation of the Beast's castle. Are they worth it? That's a topic for another time. Most reservations, I have been able to get several months after they start taking reservations.
What restaurants need to be scheduled immediately at 6 months?
Magic Kingdom
EPCOT
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Meet 4-5 princesses during dinner)
Hollywood Studios
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (availability gets harder as you get further from 6 months)
This doesn't mean that you won't find availability for these restaurants at all, but it will be much harder if you wait. All other restaurants will have pretty good availability even up to a month or two out from your vacation. Of course, very few like to eat dinner at 9 pm or 2 pm so if you want the best times, it is best to make your reservations as soon as you are able.
